Rotation in 3d window

Hello

Is it possible to change the point of rotation when alternating the direction of view in 3d window using MMB? The view seems to rotate allways round the origin of the coordinate system.

  • LMB click to place the 3d cursor wherever, then press “c” (View/Align View / Center view to cursor) … view will rotate around the cursor.

  • RMB an object, press NUMPAD-“.” (period) to zoom to the object … view will rotate around that object.

Also in User Preferences / View and Controls - try turning on TrackBall (View rotation) or Turntable, see which one you prefer

Mike

Fine, thank you Mike. This is useful

Also, you can hold [shift + MMB] or [(shift/ctrl) + mouse wheel] to move the 3d viewpoint.

Not to mention the whole menu of pivot choices under that little horse shoe-like button on the 3D view.

stiv: that’s for rotating objects, not the view.

lasioc: there’s also a user preference which makes the center of view rotation the active object. It can be useful if you’ve got very large scenes.
