Rotation Issue

I have a problem when rotating and object along the x-axis. When I try to click the x-axis, it selects the y-axis instead. I included an image, the yellow area is where I can sometimes manage to select the x-axis, but anywhere along the white line results in either y or z. Is this similar to the issue in Maya with updated ATI drivers?

In a situation like this it might be better to use hotkeys than the transform widget. Hit R and then X to rotate around the X axis.
