Rotation of bone deforms object, why?

I decided I wanted my guy to be more wide and fat after I had made an armature for him already. So I upped the size of the x and y coordinates for him to make him bigger, I did that to the mesh and the armature, tried doing it 2 different ways, it being parented and also resizing it when it wasn’t parented and reparenting it. Now the problem I have is. I just made an ax and parented it to the bone in the hand and when I rotate the bone, the ax will move with the hand but stretch out and get skinny deforming the ax. Why does this happen and how can I fix this?

Not sure, you mentioned that in your other post, but I was thinking it was to do with not parenting right. I’d have to see a .blend file to see what’s going on…

Didn’t know how else to host it. But just type in your email and it will send you the .blend

Any .blend file can be attached to a post on here, up to 976kb. In the top of the window where you type messages, there is a paperclip, that’s for attaching files. If the file is too big, try removing images used for texturing and anything else not related to the problem, like background props, etc…

I’d really like to take a look at your file, but when asked for an e-mail address, I’m wondering how much spam I might receive in the future because of this.

4Shared is one file host I use, it doesn’t force everyone who wants to download a file to enter their e-mail address…

Hope you understand my point of view,
Randy

I understand. I attached the .blend file in this reply.

The armature is scaled as it is in the file you attached. I think that is the problem. I selected the armature in object mode and hit alt-s to clear the scale and the problem went away. Select the armature in object mode and hit the n-key to bring up the transform properties window… Accoding to it, the scale x-y-z has all changed as well as loc z. Hitting alt-s to clear the scale changes the way your character looks. If you want to keep your character looking as it does and not the way it looks when you press alt-s, undo the alt-s and in object mode, select the armature, press ctrl-a, and select ‘Scale and Rotation to ObData’ option.

I would first, clear the parent on the axe, by selecting it, hitting alt-p, and choosing ‘clear parent’. Make the changes listed above, then re-parent axe to bone.

Let me know how it works,
Randy
