rotoscoping by hand

Just got finished with another school project and I thought I would share. This one was rotoscoping, not the nice new fancy way where the computer figures it out for you but the old slow way where you trace each and every frame. Since it is so labor intensive we only had to do 10 seconds total (150 frames) in three sequences. The main goal was to get a feel for the technique and do some motion studies.

Jump (0.9MB)
Stairs (1.2MB
Squirrel (1MB)

Enjoy!

they look cool, i like the stair case one alot.

when you said ‘by hand’ did you mean, pen/pencil or on computer using a mouse, or using a tablet?

next step, ad proper colour :o

I especially like the consistency on the stair case one (it’s not so jumpy)

Thanks for the comments!

On a computer using a tablet. I’ll be making hand drawn animation (not rotoscoped) later this semester.

What would be the fun in that  The goal for me was to get the motion, the colors were just chosen for good contrast.
