Roulette Table

Need feedback and critique for making it more realistic. For me, I think about ambient lightning on chips and roullete wheel. They are not casting any realistic shadows,

However, since roulette, table and chips were textured separately in Substance Painter, I have no ambient occlusion baked. How could I achieve that in Blender?
I used some concert hall lightning and some spots, suns, probably there is some room for improvement with that too.

Any tips and feedback are welcome, thanks in advance!

Hi. Mind you, I’m kinda a rookie in photorealistic stuff. But:

  • imperfections can make it more realistic. e.g. scratches, smudges, dust, minor damage, stuff that objects have irl. I dunno how to do these things in blender tho. Sry.
You can make it not 100% perfectly shaped. Randomize verts is destructive (ie permanent). There is a non-destructive way, by using noise texture or something.
  • put some stools or something around the table

ps sorry i’m not that familiar with ambient occlusion off the top of my head. I’m pretty sure Blender has an option for that, tho. It may depend on whether you set your file to eevee or cycles.

Also, I think ray-tracing makes light behave more realistically. So try that if you haven’t. New versions of Blender now have ray-tracing in eevee.

About imperfections, that’s true, but I want to set it as brand new. If it’s from some luxurious casino, it wouldn’t make sense that it has tears and dust.
About raytracing, haven’t tried that yet, neither I know how to set it and adjust, gonna check some tutorials. Thanks!

“Imperfections” don’t mean anything to me, especially in this case. But the scale of the thing seems “off.” The legs are too short. The pattern of the carpet suggests that this table might be “just a few feet high.”

Camera angle and lens selection is also key. Right now I think you’ve used a fairly wide-angle lens to get the entire table into the shot. Well, what if, for at least a shot or two, you didn’t? Take me in closer, show-off that wheel, and reveal only a portion of the table. Or, for this composition, try moving the camera farther away and use a “zoom lens.”

The modeling, so far as I can see, is fantastic. (If the table legs are actually long enough.)

About scale, that is true. At begining I didn’t use real scale for wheel, since I modeled it first, then aditionally added table. So I couldn’t use real scale but improvised, but that is easy solution, I will just google real dimensions and try to match.

About legs, here is another angle:

And here is one of the tables I used for reference

I think there is no much difference, mostly it’s about angle and lenses of camera, although it could be a bit taller, I will fix that. And now when I put it one above another, I can see also that wheel is too big for table, this leather is to “thick” and table should be wider and longer.
About camera and composition, that is part I need to improve, I always avoid “spending” time on it, but I probably should.

Thanks for tips, gonna spend time next week and fix things!

Your carpet pattern is gigantic, which I think is making the table look much smaller than it is
