Round block in a square hole

This might be really basic but how do you “splice” in a 5-point star into a mesh? I am trying to model the American flag and it is all done except for the stars. I was then going to turn it into cloth and animate it. Should I be coming at this from a modeling stand point or should I be trying to do this in a different way? Thanks for any help you could offer.

Definately go at this from a texturing standpoint. Simply make the whole flag a heavily sub-d mesh. UV map it to a flag, and hey prest a flag :smiley:
