RTX 2080; how much difference between models

If I’m not going to overclock it or fiddle with its voltages, just run it as is out of the box, no games, just rendering; does it make a difference between getting a TI, or an FTW, or whatever the “base” model is? I’m looking at EVGA and it looks like the various FTW models are less pricey. Or even go with a lesser numbered model, e.g., the 2070?

For rendering purposes there are important differences between the various models of Nvidia’s RTX 2000 series.
A 2080 ti is much faster than a 2080 or a 2080 Super. Within the same model though, ex. two different version of the 2080, the differences would be minor.
So, the first thing you have to do is to determine how much you want to spend in this gpu upgrade, find the specific model that fits inside this budget (ex. the 2070’s are priced around 450-550$, the 2070 Super’s 30-40$ more on average, the 2080’s around 600-650$ and so forth), and then search for the best implementation of this specific model, mostly looking for thermals and noise. In rendering performance the differences would be within a 1-2% margin, due to lower or higher manufacturer OC’s (boost clocks, etc).

Either go 2080Ti or 2060 Super. Anything in between in not worth the investment, in my opinion.

Also, remember the ti has 11 gigs of vram.

$1100 for this TI. The non-TI versions of the 2080 are about $300 less. Hmm, decisions.

The boost clock on that TI I linked to above is 1545 whereas the following one, not a TI, is 1845. It is 8 gig versus the TI’s 11 gig though.

Not exactly the way to look at things. The clocks might be a bit lower (although there are several 2080 ti custom models with boost clocks around 1800MHz), but the 2080 ti has 4,352 cuda cores while the plain 2080 has 2944. So, only due to this huge difference in cuda core count, the ti model should be way ahead in rendering performance.
You should first determine how much are you willing to spend. The gpu choice comes right after that.
