Running Blender??

I just downloaded and installed blender, but when I try to run it, it says:

“This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”

I’ve downloaded the latest Python 2.6 but still no luck.

You’re also going to need the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package.

Just google that dll you mentioned and download it. When you download it, the readme should have instructions on which directory to put it in. I’m pretty sure it should go in C:\Windows\System ?

What I always did on my school computer was do what J09 said (Google the .dll and download it), and instead of put it in C:\Windows\System32, you can put it in the Blender folder that contains the other .dll’s.

The Microsoft package is a free download, installs itself and is a whopping 2.6 megs. It’s not like it’s any hassle to install, and when you grab it directly from MS, you at least know someone hasn’t hidden anything nasty inside.
