running both Blender 2.49 and 2.5* aside

can I run both Blender 2.49 and the current 2.5* side by side on Ubuntu?

and the benefit to have both installed:

you can run in blender-2.55 the animation-player of blender-2.49
with CTRL-F11, no problems for letting a looping animation run …
(ctrl-key = strg-key)

So I simply install python 3? i need 2.6 for x-plane/blender 2.49

You don’t need python 3 installation. It has it included.
