Saving an animation

This is probably a stupid question, but I’ve just started playing around with animations and can’t work out how to save one. I just did a turntable with the default cube (250 frames) set the output format to codec AVI, and pressed Animate button. It appeared to render 250 frames, but when I tried to save it offered me JPG as the only option for file format. I did try something similar a couple of days ago with the MOV format, but had to go hunting for it in the tmp directory after it had rendered the animation and copy it elsewhere. Or is that indeed the usual process? Does animate automatically save to HDD, wherever you have previously specified?

Its a read, but you learn a lot.

OK, thanks for that. I’ll probably go for the direct approach until I’ve created something worth doing a bit better.

No problem. If you have any questions feel free to PM me
