When I save in Blender I get duplicate files with different looking icons, one file looks like the regular blender icon and the one other one has the regular blender icon but in a square.
Look at the file extensions. One will be .blend, the other - .blend1. This is a copy of your last save that’s created when you make a new save. You can configure how many of those backups are created in Blender’s user preferences -> file (Save Versions).
