Saving information to a file

I was wondering how one would save information from the Game Engine to a Specific file.
I have seen In A fps template that the settings could be saved to a configuration file to be used the next time that game is run and I was wondering how to do this.
I try to use a minimal amount of python but I am not sure if this is a case where python is the only option and if it is the only option. Is there a certain script that is used?

It is a typical scrypt that saves and loads the information.
It uses the ability of python to work on files. You can find how it works in very basic python tutorials! :slight_smile:
