I would like to keep my renders inside the blend file. For example, I would like to compare lighting setups. I would use one setup, then change the slot and use a second setup. Then I would go to the UV/Image editor and use the number keys or the J key to switch between slots and compare setups. Is there a way to save those slots with the blend file?
Doing it exactly the way you want is not possible, but you can always save your renders to MultiLayer EXRs, import them to blender and save the blend file. If you want those images to be saved IN the blend file itself - you can “pack” it.
I know that this is a workaround, but that’s the only way I know.
You can have two (or more) instances of blender running in your computer, open the same file make changes and compare them by using alt+tab…
Thanks for the replies.
I only really wanted to save the images in the blend so I wouldn’t have to save each render as a separate image. Since it isn’t possible I simply saved each version and used an image viewer to scrub from one to the next.
Other thing you can do is just make a copy of your scene and to make changes and just switch between scenes to compare. That way all your changes and versions will indeed be part of the same blend file (plus you keep the same layout on your screen.
