I am using Blender 2.54 (31862) on Windows XP SP-3.
I changed my “theme” settings and saved them pressing CTRL+U. However, I wanted to take the .blend file and copy it to another PC.
However, I am unable to find any of the mechanisms from the earlier versions:
A blend file named “.b25” in the installation folder
Input box where I can name the modified theme and save.
A pulldown menu to select any theme (including the “default” option).
What are the equivalent methods in this latest beta?
Also, when I press CTRL+U, Blender also saves the state of 3D window and all objects created in the file. I do NOT want to save the contents of the file, nor the view settings. How do I save ONLY the new settings (newly named theme)?
BTW this topic should be added to the FAQ sticky thread, as this part of the GUI has changed drastically, which is bound to leave many users clueless.
startup.blend (and bookmarks / recent-files) now get stored here on my win PC. Don’t know about other OS’s:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.54\config
Save as default has always saved everything so use an empty file to set your defaults / themes. Saving and loading themes I don’t know haven’t looked into it but I think not available in 2.5 att.
.
I checked two PCs with two different flavors of Windows (XP, 7) but could not find the startup.blend anywhere on the disk. (I have enabled “view hidden files” mode in case this file is hidden).
However, practically I can see the evidence that the user preferences are saved somewhere on the PC: I downloaded the latest version of Blender from Graphicall, unzipped it in a new folder, and then ran it. It started up with the modified settings. In the earlier versions, I had to copy the .25 blend file from the old folder and paste it into the new Blender folder. Now the new version inherits the settings “out of the box”. So I conclude that the user-modified settings are stored somewhere on the PC and each copy of Blender refers to it.
