Saving

ok I tried asking this question in the chat but no 1 understood be. :expressionless:

When you click save as in the blender it comes up with a defualt loction. My question is, is that loction in the program Blender its self?

Also
When I save blender dosnt see any of the new folders I made just the old ones, why is that?

How do I save a pic so I can edit it in another program.

  1. Do a search for .B.blend, thatā€™s the default blend. If you used the window installer for blender, itā€™s buried in your documents folder (winxp).

  2. what folders? If you mean the go to folders in your user preferences like for textures and sounds etc, once you set them you have to hit Ctrl U to save the settings. Cntrl U updates the .B.blend .

  3. Hit F3 to save a pic. You have to set what format in your Rendering window F10.

Ok for the second problem, go to the top of the file window, click on the two dots, and go back into that file and they should be there.

And lastly you can save a picture by going to the display properties(F10), go to the file types and change it to an image type. Render your scene (F12), click on File-Save Image, and there you have it!
Keep in mind that for some strange reason you need to add the file extention yourself (i.e. .jpg)

Ok, I think I understood what you mean: you want to change the default path where blender goes when you open [F1] or save [F2] a file. Well thereā€™s no way to change this in blender 2.31, blender by default always opens up the last folder where you saved a blend file.

You can make blender display your newly created files and folders by refreshing the viewā€¦ Unfortunately thereā€™s no ā€œofficialā€ refresh buttonā€¦ BUT you can force a refresh for eg by clicking twice on the ghost button [hide dot files]. This button activates the display of hidden unix files, and has the side effect to make a refresh! Thus if you press it twice it comes back to your initial settings, but the view has been refreshed!

I hope I made myself clearā€¦ :-?

Actually, there is. At the top of the list are two special entries: ā€˜.ā€™ and ā€˜ā€¦ā€™

ā€˜ā€¦ā€™ has the obvious meaning of ā€œgo down one levelā€
ā€˜.ā€™ is refresh

Thatā€™s great! Never relized that, cool!

But now that I tested this, thereā€™s ā€˜bugā€™ or a missing feature. When Iā€™m at the top level of a hard disk partition or drive, the ā€˜.ā€™ does not appear, but thereā€™s no reason for thisā€¦ This is for blender 2.31 on win2k.

Should I bug report this?

Youā€™re probalby of the ā€œdrag and dropā€ generation, arenā€™t you :)? ā€œ.ā€ and ā€œā€¦ā€ are directories. Every directory on your disk has a parent dir (ā€¦) and a current dir (.). Pressing the ā€œ.ā€ in blender just means ā€œgo to current dirā€. The ā€œ.ā€ and ā€œā€¦ā€ are not features of blender, they are parts of the filesystem on your disk. Open a command prompt and type dir, then youā€™ll see. Billy Gates copied that from unix, but chose not to let the root dir have those entries. So, actually, file a bug report to Microsoft

Thatā€™s a direct insult! lol! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, Iā€™m of the drag and drop generation, but in fact I hate itā€¦ I prefer much more unix logic, the reason I work with win2k is because everyone around me does. But I love linux, itā€™s just that for graphic work there are not yet as powerful tools as for windoz. But Iā€™m confident that soon there will be and then it will be time to choose liloā€™s linux boot option!

Iā€™m off topicā€¦ Well if thatā€™s a windoz stupidity, then weā€™ll have to deal with it, not very tragic indeed. :-?
