Hi All,
I am the Animation Instructor in the Visual Arts program at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. We are a public (FREE) residential pre-professional arts high school serving the state of South Carolina. Students are selected via a rigorous application process, and if selected they live and work here full time for their junior and senior year of high school. Within the Visual Arts, all students take at least one course in each of our subdisciplines: drawing, painting, graphic design, animation, photography, metals, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture. In their final senior semester, each student chooses electives (such as game art) and an area of concentration (like a mini MFA thesis).
In the animation courses, I try to teach as much open-source software as possible. We use Krita for 2D, and Blender for 3D. We also teach stop motion, however we use Dragonframe for now.
Recently we worked with Wacom to kit out our animation and graphic design studios. Here is a video highlighting that and our use of Blender. Check it out here:
We also run summer programs for 7th + 8th graders, and one for 9th graders. This past summer I taught a group of 9th graders sculpting in Blender. We made Zootopia inspired characters. The images are from my example Blender sculpt.
I will try to put an summer / fall student work demo reel together later on to share with the community.
