scale and object's visibility

Is there a way to adjust visibility in the 3d view if you have very large objects? I set up the player’s controls and such just the way I need it in relation to physics, and if I scale down the player and not the environment then the player’s controls mess up. Any ideas? Maybe there is a way to scale the player without messing up?
