Scale multiple objects, staggered in time - how?

Hi, I have a hundred objects and want them to “grow” (simple Z scale from 0) in a staggered fashion - one after the other, with or without overlap. It’s a mograph-type animation.

How do I do this? Also I noticed the objects (simple boxes) are still visible in renders even with Z scale=0. How do I remedy this? Coming from After Effects, I’d just move the layer In point.

Thank you!

Yes , with Z scale = 0 , X and Y scale = 1 so you get a plane,
you need to set X and Y to 0 too, and animate their scale either in 1 frame, or a few frame if you need a smooth transition.

And for the cascading effect, there is no easy built-in way to do it, I think this addon can do it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCirN-WGZV8

another option is to write a little script, or look into geometry nodes or animation nodes.
There are maybe other addon that are motion design oriented and can do such a thing.
