Here’s a little demo of a new type of game I’m making for a school project. I almost have the first level done, and some buttons aren’t working correctly at this moment.
Please note this is a work in progress and I will be fixing, and adding to it, the school project will be due on march 22nd so I have plenty of time to work on it.
Controls: up/down arrow keys to move beginning scene
Number 1, 2, and 3 keys to pick what you want to do and arrow keys left/right to move the arrow in the shed, and Enter to pick a crate to open.
Looks very nice… the alpha channels don’t slow the game too much?
I notice the snow appears to get darker as it gets further away. This is probably because of blender’s mipmaps. As an object gets further away, Blender blurs the texture using average colors from the image, including the invisible ones in an alpha texture. So if your transparency is actually black, blender will blur black into its mipmap, darkening the image. To change the color, take the image into GIMP and make sure you have GIMP’s background painting color set to white before saving it. (This is the default when GIMP starts, so you probably won’t need to change anything. Just open the image and save it.)
I’m on my laptop right now, but I’ll try the game as soon as I can!
Hmm… darker snow should be the right effect. As it get’s further away it should be blurrier so the snow wouldn’t be as clear, therefore darker.
Hehe, it’s like one of those 2d walkthrough text adventure games except that it’s in 3d. I know you said it wasn’t done yet, but there’s 2 wee little problems.
When I walk up to the shed and press (2) to go back, nothing happens. I can’t do anything after that.
When I go into the shed, there’s no way to choose to go back, except to open up all the boxes
I’m curious as to how this relates to a science project?
Goldentaiji, I’m aware of the 2 keys not working, I already have a version (not available yet, I’ll post it when I get something more major done) where they work properly.
Goldentaiji, and Pryjon, this science project is for a science fair at my school, we had 4 choices:
Research
Techno challenge
Invention
Experiment
This is under the Invention catergory, I didn’t think I would be allowed, but I asked my teacher if it was ok to do it, and they said it was fine, so that is how this relates on a science project.
Well, sorry for not posting my work lately, I haven’t gotten as much done as I had hoped, but I plan on catching up along March break
Some buttons will not work in the second level, and there is no back buttons so just press F12 when you want to go back.
Here’s just a screen at the cave. hint Sun, Rain, Tree hint
Once you open the cave door, you can’t go in… yet 8)
The controls at the cave are arrow keys to rotate, and up and down arrow keys to switch which panel you want to rotate, and press Enter to try your combination.
For best playing ability, please wait for whatever’s happening to finish before you do something, thanks
Looks pretty cool. Just a note about your introduction, there is no such word as “willn’t”. It should be “won’t”. You might want to fix that especially since its for school. So far it seems like a good start.
Ha ha ha…Thats great. I love the eyes. I really like your project Facemania because its different from the normal FPS. You also seem very creative. If you only you had more time to finish it.
BTW: I do like your ability to keep it simple. Your moving forward despite the fact that it isnt perfect. Great work!
Well, It’s finally done (kinda), I finally got some breathing room to post it, everything has been really busy lately. Sorry but there is only 3 levels, and 1 way to actually lose. Have fun
yea, it does kinda remind me of myst, its a cool little mysterious adventure, i really like the animations/ipos, but it might be good to make some of the text invisible until you get to it, graphics could be better, but i’d rather like to see this game finished instead of spending tons of time making things look nice
Im away on the raft! I wonder where I will end up? Nice work Facemania…hope to see episode 2 soon. Might I suggest that to keep things from becoming overwhelming, you setup the next part as a whole new .blend. Thanks face for the cool game!
