ScottishPig's boat stage 2

Ok.

I don’t think I’ll pursue the project too much more, but for sure I’ll take it into gimp as soon as possible.

Forget the ZBlur. I think I configured something wrong, and it went screwy. So I’m just going to add depth of focus manually in Gimp as soon as I can get Xwindows working.
Then I’ll get it to look more photorealistic (Including making the sails the same shade, not medium grey and bright white) and other enhancing effects.

Comments?

I don’t think you should add DOF, because that effect only appears when the camera is close to the objects, but this is a way large object and the camera is too far away.

u could add some image textures on the ship and the sails, maybe it’ ll look more realistic then…
great water reflections!

did you model the whole Hull, or is it modeled to the water line?

(jorx) #5

Nope, ScottishPig did the model. I just set it up. And yes, the whole hull was modeled.

I think I’ll apply just a tiny bit of blur to the horizon. Even with large objects, usually the horizon is a bit blurred.
Thanx. Any more comments?

Eric, do you not have blur when you use telescope or binoculars? Why do you think you only see blur on small objects?

Eric, do you not have blur when you use telescope or binoculars?

yes ofcourse.

Why do you think you only see blur on small objects?

Maybe I expressed me wrong, I meant that the blur is more visible when there is a object near the camera. Focus is wider at a larger distance.

Eric is right… without boring anyone… look up info of “field of view” or “f-stops” as they pertain to focus… (along with lens types i.e. 24mm, 50mm, etc…)

Convention dictates that a photograph taken of a ship like that in the picture would mosat probably be taken with a wide angle lens… and with the apparent distances of objects involved in the pic… focusing would be very minimal… However… if the picture had been taken with a very loooong lens (think telephoto) then the focusing would be major…

BTW… Good job… it seems everyone’s doing ships… ScottishPig started something here…
