Searching beta testers for a 3dsMax RailClone blender alternative!

Hi Folks
We are currently cooking a new plugin that is an alternative to ItooSoft ‘RailClone’, the 3dsmax, plugin but for blender, integrated in as new Geometry-nodes.

If you used to be a 3dsMax user and miss this tool, please show yourself!
We need your precious hands to test our product before it’s official release!

Cheers

I’m a 3dsmax user but not a RailClone user… I know it and I’ve seen that it’s intensively used on archviz.
If you want I can do some testing…let me know.

Taking notes!

I used RailClone briefly for a couple of archviz projects a long time ago, but I wasn’t a habitual user of the plugin, so I didn’t really explored all that can be done with it.

A Blender alternative sounds really good! I’d be interested in using it to populate scenes for the kind of cartoony shots we do at work, as long as it’s possible to use our own assets with the addon.

I think a good test would be to try and recreate the same things (or as close as possible) that are shown on the latest release video of the plugin.

Have never used it, but did come across their product website a few months ago… it looked interesting. If I was still using Max, probably would have looked into it more.

So, will keep an eye on this thread.

I would love to test it. I still have access to RailClone and 3DS Max, but I never use it.

Thank you for your interest folks!

Note that this is a re-invention of the multi railing concept from scratch.
We are going to start with version 1.0. It won’t be as advanced as their tools on our first version of course  3dsmax plugin ecosystem is very old, decades!

Of course, that makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

It’s better to start with “simple” functionalities and add slowly to them as they get better and more polished.

I really hope that is NOT going to be the case. Sorry, @julperado.

The way I see it, I rather have them doing first the FUNDAMENTAL tools and frameworks. And as complex, difficult, and convoluted as they need to be.

Even if it doesn’t shine on the surface, interface, and users can only find partial benefits yet but a release has to be made for general testing and to assure the viability of the endeavour through some financial intake. After that, then yeah, as you said. Add simple, or many, or one but complex tool or toolset at a time if you want. Whatever makes sense.

But to start, NOT the simple, please. Not the easy, but the fundamental. If that makes sense. Do not, please, shoot yourselves in the foot and in a few months of so-and-so encouraging success we’ll find ourselves having to wait eagerly for the great re-write that it will make it now, for sure this time, truly awesome.

For realsies, though, don’t make it easy first. We’ll wait. We really want this to work. I could use it today. And I’m the one saying all this. Don’t do it too much the Blender way, if that’s a thing.

Hoping you have some solution for bisecting modules at corners like fencing.

Yes we have an automatic corner solution

Hehe!
What kind of other features would you expect from a “super array” plugin?

On a fence, for example. It would be great to have two or more types of gates specified by vertex groups. You can have either a pedestrian entrance or a vehicle entrance. Then have the option to relocate them dynamically by moving the vertex or assigning a different vertex.

We have a empty system for that, you choose a collection of empty where there will be a special block you can choose from

The only other thing would be to make it easy to animate. The modules remain loose parts, so they can be animated to scale in.

Animated to do what exactly?

I typically scale in from 0 to 1 so it shows a fence being installed.

Hi there!
I’m a Blender user, not 3DsMax user, but I’m currently working in architectural vizualization. We do all our 3D work in Blender.
We had a guy in the studio who came from 3DsMax, and he told us about RailClone. The idea of a Blender RailClone… Clone - appealed to us, and we were planning on trying to develop a solution our selves.
However, this would take a long time and a lot of resources. Trying your solution maybe what we are looking for. If still relevant, we would love to test your addon:)
