Hey everyone! Remember my last game? Well, I’m still working on the sequel, and now, here’s a demo to prove it! No, Zark 2 is not vaporware! It’s just slow in coming. So now, a year after the original game, enjoy an entire level of the upcoming sequel. http://gorilla3d.com/plantperson/zark2_demo_blend.zip (6.61 MB).
This ZIP file contains a .blend file of the demo. Note that this was designed for 2.41, and may run strangely in 2.42a. I haven’t optimized it yet.
Now is the time to critique the controls system, interface, etc. If you think something needs to be changed, tell me now, don’t wait until the game itself comes out! Now is the time to make suggestions.
Those of you who unwittingly helped have been credited.
I really don’t like how you can only use the right Shift. And requiring the middle mouse button really hurts laptop players. But the music is interesting, and the texturing is really great.
There is something really wrong with the controls, actually the controls, for me, dont even work, I dont know why, but they dont. The camera just shakes and I cant move, so you might wanna check that out. Or maybe my computer is just messed up. Anyways I cant tell you if it was good cause I couldnt look around.
Hey Planetperson, i loved the first Zark game it was really cool, with the nice but simple story line, well modeled enviroments, and the night to day cycle :), overall well though out game.
So i was looking forward to what you had planned for this next installment, but as the others are saying the character never goes anywhere, now this may be because we are trying to run the game with 2.42a build, as you said it was initially designed for 2.41 so that could be where the problem lies, also the camera is abit to sensitive, i was moving it around for at least 5 mins before i finally got it in a good enought position to see the character.
Hope the new optimized file will sort these bugs out so we can start playing!
I will add in more compatibility features. Support for WASD, and non-scroll-wheel systems. I didn’t realize that there were people without cursor keys.
I’m sorry so many people are having trouble with the game! If you can’t get it to work, please provide me with some specs so that I can try to get to the root of the problem. (and be sure that the physics aren’t on Bullet).
Gameplay: has anyone played through to the end yet? I’m afraid that as yet I’ve been unable to get my indicator icons (as used in the last game) to work with new blender versions, due to the message-IPO bug. Have you been able to find the interactive objects anyway?
View: I’m getting some complaints about the view system. Maybe I can’t make you happy, but would you prefer a non-adjustable chase view, directly behind the character?
Nothing about the game is set in stone as yet, so now is the time to make suggestions!
Well i went through the writing in the .blend and as Plantperson said you need to have the world physics set to SUMO and not bullet otherwise the game wont run.
Once the physics are set right the camera is pretty nice and i dont think you should change it to a static one Plant keep the fully movable,
There was no indication in game when i was near a interactive object, however most of them (if not all) are pretty obvious anyway :P. I didnt manage to get to the end its pretty complicated, ( i was tired so… :/).
I’m afraid that as yet I’ve been unable to get my indicator icons (as used in the last game) to work with new blender versions, due to the message-IPO bug.
That was awesome! I didn’t even know what i was doing so i just pressed every thing that i could!
The interactivity was great, a lot of things to push and spin and see what they do.
I got up to the baloon thing with the lever in it. I pressed it and it didn’t do anything?
Was that the end of the demo or do i have to put several of those things (You can press them like 3-4 times, they go from nothing to a bit to middle to full) to a certain place…
argh i can’t explain. Ohwell, i’m interested to see what the end of the demo looks like. Goes off to play again
Please Excuse my extremely rushed post.
EDIT: I read the thing in the other scene, except i can’t be bothered doing it right now.
Very interesting. I liked the first one, specially because of the interactivity between the spacecraft and ground levels. This one seems to have more details (shadows, and stuff)… which obviously is good! I am looking forward to this one!
Are you familiar with the Myst series? It’s my main inspiration.
The airship did not do anything when you pulled the lever because it was not ready yet. Before it can descend, you must create the right kind of gas and give it the right amount of electricity. The clues are all there… you just need to find them and learn their meaning. The gas puzzle is easier than the electricity puzzle.
I’m trying to get it to be compatible with 2.42a, but I’ve run up against a snag: whenever I press ESC to leave the game simulation, Blender unceremoniously crashes. This effectively prevents me from getting it to work. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What’s wrong with it?
UUUUHHHH… Theres something wrong with the game =||| In the first scene the only thing i can see is sky (???)… if i move mouse i can find a position when the main characrer is seen =||| But still he (she???) is unable to move!!! it seems to be he stuck in a wall… =||
