finally after almost a month’s hardwork i finished this one.its my digital creation of michelengelo’s famous sculpture ‘David’.i made this specially for the blender-demoreel.i thought of this project a while ago when i was working on another project.i would have started it after finishing that one.but as soon as i read about the demoreel thingy i jumped on to it.i already had a couple of reference pics.so i finally started making my own David on 8th dec.2002.though i call it david its not the exact replica of the real one.i did not blindly copy everything that was on the statue.i tried to bring the appearence and mood of the real david.so don’t jump on to collecting the real david’s pics and picking out the errors that i have.my special thanks goes to my elder sister who sat beside me very patiently while i was modelling the ears seeing hers.believe me she has a almost perfect pair of ears you will ever see, though not better than mine(no really…i’m not joking).the lighting is also crucial here…it defines the divinity and strength of the character.one more thing…this whole model does not contain a single triangular face(except the eyeballs…where the points meet).
you got it wrong…i did not want to make it photorealistic.its kinda different genre…like those of the impressionists.they did not want to make their paintings photorealistic, yet the paintings were great.
I love the model, I love the camera angle,…
I think you need some more work on the lighting though. Several parts of the body are completely unlit which looks rather weird to me (like the right side of the neck), and the shadows are way to crips. Maybe try some sort of lightdoma as a secondary light to reveal more of the details…
WOW :o
Stunning! Great modelling!!!
But I agree with hannibar it needs a bit bether lighting… or better: it deservers it!
I think the right side is still far too bright.
As usaul Kos! Your work really impress me. You’re a very good modeler!
Keep up blending!
PS:…there is always a place in my movie team for someone like you…so if you’re ineterested in participating in the creation of The Exodus movie…then just ask me
VERY NICE , kos. I agree with the idea that photorealistic is not always best. In fact, for the last month I have been trying to create a form similar to one in El Greco’s paintings. The elongated and musculature features are difficult to work with though. You model is amazing. How many viewpoints did you do that from ?
is this a rule that you have to make your images photorealistic for the demoreel?i don’t think so.i think my images shows rhe power of blender’s modelling features…that is what you need to attract others.i would love to see how many photorealistic images will be in the demoreel.right now i can make a table and a glass object which will look photorealistic.does it worth showing on the demoreel.art is not ment be photorealistic always.
and about the lighting thing…i rendered it in lightflow.so the shadows are sharp due to raytracing.the lighting brings out the depth of the character here.the red light stands for power and determination, the white light casted from upword gives him a divine touch.this idea is taken from renaissance artists.
I agree on the fact that it doesn’t have to look realistic to be good. but that doesn’t mean it can’t have good lighting. those shadows a re much too hard and dark, really hard to see some places.
