Sectional cut / view

Hi,

I need to create sectional cut / view (hope this is the right word for that) for a piston.
See attached example picture.
So I want to model the whole piston with all it’s inner parts.
Then I want to cut the piston somewhere to show the inner details.
I don’t want to model the cut itself.
I want to cut the piston on different positions or I want to create an animation of cuts through the whole piston from front to back of piston.

Can this be done using Blender?

Thanks a lot!

Try booleans, but be aware that they are not very stable… you can animate the cut by adding a boolean modifier to the piston and then targeting a moving cube, then move the cube to other layer. But the wise option would be to use static geometry…
There are some techniques using node materials, see this.

Hi liero,

thanks, that pointed me into the right direction!

Best regards!

you can use ctrl+b to make a cut, but thats just for working, i dont think it will work on render.
