See-Through or X-Ray

I have a reference image loaded onto an image plane in the scene. I also have a mesh object in front that I want to model and edit to match the reference. How I can make my mesh semi-transparent so that I can see the reference in the viewport while modelling?

Thanks in advance.

Instead of using an image plane, try loading it as a background image (in the n-panel). You can make it as transparent as you want and have it appear in any view.

Press N and in the menu that opens scroll down to the tab that allows you to select a background picture.

You can make your mesh ‘transparent’ by going into wireframe mode (i forgot the shortcut,it used to be Alt+Z but it seems it changed)
