Selected Object not being highlighted: screenie & blend attached

In this file, all the feathers in the tail are selected, and also the (cubical) body, but the biggest, middle feather is not highlighted.

Why is that?

If you go back in Object mode, you see that the others are selected and the middle feather is the active. Maybe that partly gives an answer, but I don’t know why the selected are outlined and active not in Texture Paint. With the same selection as you had I was able to paint the middle feather (after making a new base-color texture).

If it’s consistent and replicable, I’d call that a bug.

I do know if I scramble around a bit it seems to go away, but I have no idea what the steps are, and really it should never happen at all as far as I can see.
