PLEASE help. I am literally about to either cry or scream in frustration.
I have (what I think is) a simple project: a vase. (Well, to be honest, the problem is actually on all the projects I have done so far for The Sims 4), I just get lucky though sometimes and unwrap by selecting ALL, and sometimes it works. In this instance however, it isn’t working.
Okay so, the simple question: HOW in the heck do I select EDGES? I try right-clicking while holding alt and sometimes I get little white lines, but as soon as I click another, the last one un-selects, so how am I to mark a seam? I use Border Select too and Circle Select but they pull in almost the same amount of vertices, or edges as if I were just to hit select all if I am thorough.
Clicking starts a new selection. If you want to add to the current selection Shift-Click. Also, looking at that model, your best bet is select a vertex and shift select another vertex. Then in the Select menu, choose Shortest Path. That will select a path of edges between the two.
“SHIFT” click! OMG. Thank you. I thought I had tried that.
This brought me SO much closer. I just tried Select Shortest path, and it gave me a long yellow path which is leaps ahead from where I was. Really, thank you so much.
If I may ask another thing please … I don’t need to select everything, correct? I simply need to select all the edges in view around the vase (or basically, the top left and right of the vase in the image above), and mark seam, then repeat on the back side and done, yes?
In face select mode, press L to select linked. That will bring up options at the bottom of the T panel. Select Seams in the options. Keep making seams until pressing L in face mode stays within the seamed off area. Then press H. That will hide those faces. Keep repeating that. Seam off an area, hide it, seam off an area, hide it. Once the model is all hidden, press Alt-H to un-hide it. It will be all selected… Press U U to unwrap it.
A quick update on the object … 1. Personally, I think it turned out beautiful. 2. I used the wrong clone to make it and it wound up with a candle flame in the middle of it which I can’t get rid of. Haha.
