Selecting faces based on UV texture color?

I was wondering if it was possible to select faces base on a color. A range maybe since there are various shades of the color I want selected. I can convert the diffuse map to vertex color so I figured there might be a way to just select the faces based on the UV color or diffuse texture. I am trying to clean up some 3D scans and that would make it about 100 times faster. Thanks everyone.
