Selecting Objects

I have two objects, a person and a hat. I need to select only the hat, but I can’t. Both objects are always selected together and move together. How do I select only 1 object? This is my first post here. I have only been working with blender a few days.

try the outliner. i find it usefull

What is the “outliner”? If you mean use a selection box only around the hat, that doesn’t work.

Did you make both objects at the same time while in edit mode? If so then the person and the hat will be treated as one object. The only solution I know of for that situation is to duplicate them return to edit mode and delete the hat in one copy and delete the person in the other. If you didn’t make them both at the same time during edit mode, you may have them parented to each other. Select both objects and then press alt+p this will clear the objects parent.

I fixed it. I had to duplicate it and delete like Dofight said. Thanks.

Pressing P brings up a menu for separating mesh into separate objects.
