Selection problems

Hi guys,

I’m new to blender and I already love it. But I do have some things quite annoying with the selection system. I’ve been working with maya for 8 years now, and I like how you can add / replace or remove things in the selection, using shift, ctrl and ctrl+shift.

In blender I use the maya presets, but I couldn’t find a way to remove several things from a selection using a rectangular shape (left click, drag and drop, like it windows, I think you guys call it border select). I can only deselect things holding shift, and then clicking on every object one by one…

I wanted to know if some people have the same issue, and if anyone thought about making a maya-like selection?

In details: you can use rectangular selection with shift to toggle in selection (add or remove depending of the current state of the object, made to invert the selection - but ctrl+i just works fine), ctrl to remove from selection, and ctrl+shift to add to the selection.

I know demohero made a key config to make it feel more like maya but the selection is the same as blender with maya preset.

Thank you.

b key for border select.

Ctrl key and LMB held down, draws a lasso around the objects you wish to select, but sometimes that’s a bit quirky.

I am not sure about multiple deselect in the context you are describing. You could always post in “what you would like to see in the next version of Blender” threads and go from there.

Regards.

B + left mouse button for border select
B + middle mouse button for border deselect

The same for the circle-selection/deselection with C…

Thank you guys, but that’s not with the Maya presets… I guess no one thought about deselecting lasso for maya preset. I don’t think there is anything in the hotkey configuration to fix that.

Actually using the middle mouse button for deselecting is not a bad idea.

Just tried the maya presets and border select doesn’t seem to be bound to any inputs.

You can go into the user interface options and bind border select to any key or command you like. It’s in User Preferences -> Input -> 3D View -> 3D View (Global) -> Border Select. I bound it to Keyboard -> B and it works with B -> LMB to border select and B -> MMB to border deselect.

Hope this helps some.

I’ll do that for the moment, I’ll continue looking for a way to do that (it shouldn’t be complicated since you can area select with shift already…), or hopefully a coder will have a look.

thank you guys.

I can’t find the “what you would like to see in the next version of Blender” threads BTW. Can someone share a link?
