I said my sophemore year that I would make my own senior picture for the year book, so here is my first piece of work on it. I used the trusty Blender3D to make my character Jay-Man, and Terragen to make the bg. The entire image is composited in Photoshop with a few adjustments. :nods:
But, the shadow on the shoulder looks too sharp IMO. The rest of your picture doesn’t have anything that shows the lighting would do that. Maybe a softer shadow that curves slightly? Right now it looks like the shadow is projecting onto a flat surfac (a plane maybe?). Other than that, looks pretty good.
The pic of me is actually a prelim’ pic, so the issue with the red eyes is to be fixed in the final, and I am working on fixing it in this version. My plan is to make multiple poses, not all are going to have characters or “special” stuff in them, as my mother hates this one and doesn’t want me to have Jay-Man in my yearbook pic. Jay-Man has been around since his scetched versions in my sophemore year to my vector versions in my junior year, and now the 3D versions this year. To say the least, he has been through it all with me. I want to include him in some way in my yearbook shot, but who knows how I’ll end up doing it. I believe that I will retake the shot of me, in better clothes (these are my normal school clothes), and composite it in with Jay-Man. TurboG: To address the shadow on the shoulder, it was Photoshopped into the image, and I noticed that it was off after I published it here.
What was fun about this pic is that this is my first time to compare Jay-Man to me, and noticing that he is 3.5 feet tall, and I am 6.25 feet tall, I had to do some idea work. I controlled the lighting in the shot, and tryed to match it in the 3D shot, and also did measures of distance between the light and camera and camera and Jay-Man. Most of this shot is very controlled. This is the first time I have ever done this sort of thing, so that is why this is just a preliminary image. I am attempting to learn some techniques to get the best result, as my mum would be mad otherwise. lol
I will have an updated version up tomorrow. (hopefully)
I’ve done stuff like this before, both in still and in animation. If you want this to look really good, you’re going to have to spend a lot of time in Photoshop. Here’s how it will break down:
Blurring Jay-man to match the blur level of your original.
Adding grain (with Add Noise filter) to Jay-man.
blurring that grain to match the final grain of your original.
Desaturating Jay-man (Cmd-U) to get him in line with the saturation of the original.
Well, the only thing I updated here was the shadow on the shoulder, and I added the noise/grain/blur effect suggested, and I like how it turned out. It is starting to look much better. Oh, I also changed some of the saturation on me and Jay-Man, which brought out my colors more. I got the red-eye prob’ almost fixed, but since the final will have a different pic of me, I don’t care to much about this one. Desoto-111: I am 6 foot 3 inches. .25 feet is 3 inches. I am tall, but actually just around average with the guys from my school, so I don’t always feel my height until I’m around my 5’ 11" dad and 5’ 4" mum. I was adopted. lol
I will work more tomorrow on the Jay-Man aspects, and maybe reshot the pic sometime this weekend, as school is getting quite stressful. Thanks for the comments.
