Separating faces?

I accidentally created a new mesh while in edit mode and now I’ve got a faces that I want as a separate mesh. How do I split these apart from the rest of the faces?

select the faces/vertices which you want seperately in edit mode. Press “P” and select “Selection” to seperate the selected faces/vertices.
