Separating light from scene & object

Hello guys,

I have been working on this motor for a few days now, and I’d like to get a little help here.

My motor feels a bit too “flat”, I can’t see the outlines of its shape on the front clearly and I assume this must be from the light reflection.

I can’t see the motors texture clearly and I feel like the environment lighting is being a bit too strong, but even when I get the reflection lower it does not change a thing.

I downloaded the texture from Blenderkit, so it might be an issue as well there as the motor texture is not done by me.

Hope you guys will help me out there, thanks a lot !

Hi,

It could be either because of how you have set up your points of light in your scene or how you have set up your texture onto that object (namely: uv-unwrapping, nodes etc.).

I guess, you would need to play with both of these aspects, in order to get what you want.

As for your particular matter: I didn’t find any useful information except of this one thread: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/268047/how-to-separate-objects-from-lighting-when-compositing-in-2-8. Maybe it would help you.

Apropos, don’t forget that you can always add some sort of sharpness onto your edges via post-processing tools, like image editors and so on.

Hope this information helps.

Cheers

Hi and welcome,
it’s difficult to say something useful just with the image you posted.
If you don’t want (or can’t) share the file (in case like this someone can look at it and see very quickly any issue) then some screenshots of material shaders and mesh topology could be useful (I think seeing some artifacts). Which kind of modifiers you used?
Have you also checked the usual stuff like normals/orientation/scaling etc?
