Serena

Hi everyone, I recently joined this community and for my first post, I want to show you my last work, I finished it about a month ago, but I didn’t posted sooner because I was changing my site, and I postponed it so I have somewhere to host more images.

Hope you like it, mmm her.

Title: Serena
Software: Blender 2.67b, Mari

This is Serena, contrary to her name she is a warrior, she lost both legs, her right eye and an arm on battle, but she replaced them with bionic parts and came back for more, although her clear skin with just a couple of bruises and cuts here and there shows us she is healthy and just arrive into a new battle, the wear and tear on her bionic limbs and armor prove that she has been in combat for quite a while.

Everything but the textures were done in blender, and rendered with cycles.
Textures were done in Mari.

Different angle and slightly different lighting.

The full model in a couple of poses.

Like I said in the beginning I just changed my portfolio, and I don’t know if there is a limit on image file size or resolution, or number of images in a post so if you would like to see more images in higher resolution, please visit my portfolio.

I think the skin shader is VERY good and convincing, especialyl because you achived a good bump.
Can you share that?

Sure, glad you liked it, it’s quite a simple setup thought it was the one that hold me the most before I could say it was done.

Most of the work comes from the textures, I just added color ramps to control how much of the textures I would allow to control the setup, and did a lot of test renders in different angles and light conditions until I was satisfied, so I think besides the textures, the other important thing is to test, test, test, and don’t overdo things, at least on common things like human skin, on fantasy characters other things are allowed, but on skin which we are too familiar, lets try to avoid it.

really good work! the only critique is the a couple of the scratches on the armor seem stretched in some places

Thanks dolemite, and yes you’re totally right, I thought I removed all of those I spent so much time with the skin that I missed some and didn’t noticed, and the worst was that those were right on my face, haha, that’s why is always good to show your work to someone else with fresh eyes.

thankyou for shring!
even the sss still does not support anytype of bump :frowning:

Other than the armor and the mechanical eye, did you model and texture the girl yourself?

Hi MmAaXx, do you mean displacement? If so, then you’re right, and that’s really a bummer.

Hi georg, sure I did using photo references, except for the ear which was an old model I did on Zbrush and retopoed it, I just reused it instead of having to remodel the ear all over again which isn’t the easiest thing to do, also the clothing (as tiny as it is, haha) was modeled, I did all the texturing on Mari using references from 3D.sk which have a lot more resolution and a lot less noise than the ones I used for modeling, for the body I used 2 different UV tiles one for the head and front torso, the second one for the back and limbs, all textures are 4K using a color, bump and spec for the body, the human eye and the inner mouth are on a different tile which is the only 2K one, the armor is split into 4 different tiles and have basically just one texture for the scratches in BnW so I could use it as a mask and mix 2 different materials, the clothing is on its own tile and has just a color texture, other things uses simple tilable textures and/or Blender textures.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post images showing different software, so if I’m not, please let me know and I’ll remove it.
