Set Parent and Keep Local Transform

I seem to have forgotten how to do this simple operation.

In the image below, the sphere is parented to the cube. I want to change the sphere’s parent to the cone such that it gets repositioned above the cone. Basically I want to keep the local transform when I change the parent.

I seem to remember there was an easy way to do this, but I can’t figure it out.

Thanks

Wayne

Select the child, select the parent, press alt-p, clear parent, and then parent the sphere to the cone. If it moves when you clear the parent, select clearparent and keep transformation. Does this solves your issue?

Thanks for helping. At your step ‘parent the sphere to the cone’, the sphere doesn’t move to the cone, it stays above the cube. The parenting changed, but the sphere doesn’t move. And this occurs if I choose ‘keep transform’ or not. Does it work for you? ( ie the sphere moves over to the cone? )

Oh okay, I understand what you want to do. I’m not sure if there is a way to do that. You can do it manually though.
