Setting up backgrounds in all four views.

Hey guys,

To set up background imagine in bottom viewports I go to View, Background Image, load the image and I have it. Easy. BUT, when I try to do same to top vieports, the box with LOAD doesn’t appear, I changed the resolution to a very high one and found osmething interesting, beyond top menu, there appeared a new view port in which the darn box appeared.
Anyways, I need help setting up 4 different images in all 4 viewports…

Thx,

Boggy

Guys? No one wants to help? :expressionless:
Maybe I confused you… let’s just say I need help setting up background pic in every view port.

5 hours isnt enough time to be bitching about.

no i dont think it can be done

Won’t work. You’ll get the same background picture in all the views. I just create planes on the x,y and z axis and UV map them with the reference images. I place them on their own layer so it easy to turn them on and off.

The BG image is “panel dependent”. Say you divide your screen in 4 panels (1:top, 2:front, 3:camera and 4:side). You can place diferent images in any panel. Say you map an image to panel 1:top and other to panel2: front. All fine. You will “mess up” only if you change the contents of a panel, for exemple panel1 to side (it will still show the “top” image, since it´s panel dependent, not view dependent).
What might be happening to you is a bug which prevents the NKEY and BG options dialog pop up to appear at all. I had this once and fixed it deleting the B.blend file.

Hope it helps.

It could be possible in a near future to be able to specifiy different background pics depending on the view (Top, Side, Front, Camera).

the default 4 view screen doesn’t have headers on the top two 3d views, you need to add them to get to the view menu.

to add them:
approaching the window border from the 3d window with no header (iirc) right click on the window border
choose add header

to get rid of (or move) the header, right click on it.

Theeth, that would be useful!

z3r0 d,

I am at school currently, BUT MAN YOU ROCK, if that add panel thing works, you’ve answered my question. I just couldn’t find the darn panels for the top views.

I am busy working on a network project right now so can’t type any further but there is a tutorial that uses 4 views with different image in each view, one problem is that the tutorial was probably made for older version because ctrl+f7 thing to bring up add background image doesn’t work in 2.3.

When you have your headers back, use the View menu of each header… BG image option.

Wohoo, it works, thx guys! :stuck_out_tongue:
