Severe performance hit when switching from 2.36 to 2.4x

This may be a question better directed to the Gentoo forums, but thus far I have been unable to find any helpful information on the Gentoo forums. Ever since I upgraded to blender 2.4x (currently 2.42) on Gentoo, my render times have slowed by about 10 times. This has been uniform on all 5 of the Gentoo machines I have used. Every one of them had (relatively) excellent render times with Blender 2.36, and all of them have horrible render times in 2.4x. From what I understand, rendering is totally unrelated to the video card, so it shouldn’t be my GL settings or the like. What user-editable settings exist that could possibly be causing this HUGE hit to rendering performance?

I think it has to do with the use of “buckets” while rendering.
Try setting x and y parts to 1 (single cpu) or 2 (dual core or hyperthreading) or higher if using more than 2 cpu’s. If I am not mistaken, the higher values are for networked rendering.

Oh yeah, if dual core or hyperthreading or using multiple cpu’s, turn on the threads button.

That fixed it! Back to normal, thanks
