sexy mesh from curve

Hello there.
Long time lurker here.

I use curves(importing svg) to generate a basemesh. Then I use sculpt mode to fiddle with the mesh and transform it into something of my liking. The problem is though that the top and bottom part of the generated mesh have a terrible topology for sculpting.

I’m wondering, is there a way(apart from manually placing vertices) that gives me a nicer mesh to work with? It looks to me like something that could be automated.
