SGI users advice needed

I’m working a dealout to buy a SGI Indigo2 for Blender work only. I own a SGI o2 currently, which runs Blender 3D lovely. I know some of the Indigo2 handle 3D better then o2s. This Indigo2 is supposed to be a R10000, Dual head Video and comes with 2 15inch monitors. I hope its a MaxImpact.
My shop game plan is use SGI boxes for blender modeling only and Render on Powermac G4 using Mac OS X Blender 3D and Lightwave 3D. If possible use renderdaemon across the Solaris, SGI and linux boxes.
I know I’m better off with a wintel based box, but UNIX is my thing.
My thing is I want a box dedicated to just modeling and one I could leave running 24/7. That way I could leave my main box (PowerMac) free for DVD authoring and video work. IRIX good for that just the power usage is crazy on SGI boxes. I should be spending $500 for the Indigo 2 which is good if its MAxImpact and loaded with RAM.
How may SGI users are out there still?
Thanks for your time!!

@powermacg4
if it still applies :wink: ?
don’t ever use octane 24/7. indigo² would be better off in terms of power costs, but watch out not 2 have tram (texture module) on it, because it’s a heater in itself. octane mxe (double graphics + texture engines) could easily provide the heating for a 15m sq office the whole winter long -> due 2 two trams attached. on the other hand the octane power is much greater than that of the i². you could buy the sgi-machines off the ebay auctions 4 as much as €300-€400 nowadays. i own a octane and an indy, but i wait until the fuel prices fall down.
the succession is:

  1. multimedia (universal) machines: indy -> o2 -> o2+
  2. graphic tanks: indigo² -> octane -> octane2
  3. fuel is a bit of everything plus the nt-visual workstations. a neat allrounder with great features (and a mighty price :wink: )
