Shade Smooth did not help enough - and tips for get same snow continue?

1. Shade Smooth

I have scene with snow (huge plane):

Plane is Shaded Smooth, but it is ALMOST the same when “Shade Flat”. Also tried “Shade Auto Smooth” but did not help.

All modifiers are disabled.
Simplify is disabled.
Tried to apply scale, but no help.

What can’t I figure out now? It have to be some easy… :face_with_monocle:

2. Also if You have a good tip to get this same looking snow to continue all over the plane smoothly?

Well there is this general problem which often occurs when user post their problem… for the images

  1. What exactly are we supposed to se here ?? Lot’s of assets and the nodes are barely visible
  2. again: what exactly… the base grid is a flat one changed by the geometry nodes and you choosed to show it selected o lmosteverthing is orange
  3. your comment about shaded smooth… Well what exactly do you expect here ? It looks like some terrain grid is beveled or subbdivided using simple before subdivided via catmulk-clark.
  4. What ?
  5. Ahh… so your “snow” arround the house seems to have more density than the rest… could it be you used differetn scaling for them ?? Of course we do not know if there is some option for the geometry nodes setup to also have differentn density (for example for background assets)

So you might give some more and preciser info about this. For example wich snow geometry nodes you used so if one also use this can help or a show bit more about the settings for the models. Maybe while preparing this for presentation you even can spot some difference yourself because this simple is very little info to be abel to help.

Think about it

Sorry if the pictures and information were unclear.

  1. and last comment: addon (assets) are from winterify, it is showing here. And only showing this square shapes on plane (not smooth). Geometry nodes are not activated as I said (so no need to look that.)
  2. Second image it is in edit-mode, meaning was to show that subdivide is not the point, there is plenty of that.
  3. I don’t understand why this plane is not smooth (and still there is no subdivision activated). Normally selecting object to smooth it don’t give these square shapes You can see in Viewport and rendered image.
  4. Meaning that want to this material continue in this bigger.
  5. I changed all values in Winterify Geometry nodes (scale/detail/roughness/distortion/subdivision/value etc.) but still not detailed snow like same geometry node with this little one…

Okay i see now the subdiv and the geometry nodes modifer are disabled in your images… so where does this difference in shading in your first image comes from ? Another modifier ?

“We” do not see this from what you have shown here…

No modifier. Manually get some shape in edit mode (proportional editing activated.) But when driving car at moment ago I was given idea that maybe reason can be found here, that normally I subdivide at start many times but in this project tried first get it lighter so got only couple of subdivide. Then edited this shape. So after that given subdive don’t be valid in these shape. Maybe problem is so easy. Have to check that tomorrow.

If you mean this

its because you first sculpt it and only then subdivided without smoothing. thats why shade smoothing does not work properly here.

sub without smoothing

sun with smooth

just go sculpt mode and use smooth brush

Yep, or even better probably, go to Sculpt mode and use the Mesh Filter (toolbar) then select Smooth operation. It will smooth everything at the same time, which in this case might be preferred rather than manually brushing.

Thanks a lot! :palms_up_together:This both worked! I don’t even thinking sculpt-mode, because used only edit mode to making this plane. :exploding_head: Even I don’t know why first this Mesh Filter made only spikes, but trying couple of times it worked.

I hope that in this forum there would be possibility to check several posts for solution, because they are! Checking now this easier, last way but cblpop way is also solution.

And here is where settings are found (because it took some time to find), if somebody else want to try. Never ever heard about “mesh filter” and so many new tools here nowadays!

God bless! :dove:
