shader experiments

Hi folks,

In the last days I have played with the
new shader options in 2.28. Here are two
results I am think of worthy to post.

here is .blend file:

model is by BgDM - thanks alot!

happy rendering, Bob

Wowzy! :o
The carpaint especially looks absolutely fabulous! But the green velvet isn’t very velvety, it reminds me of the green felt on pool tables.

thanks jolly g

I agree the velvet looks more like felt on pool tables.

Bob

But it’s really good looking felt! And that first texture has a great ‘agate’ feel to it.

I came up with a velvet(oid) texture in Blender 2.25 (check https://blenderartists.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10964 for it). Looks like I’ll have to rework it using the new shaders!

I agree about the car paint. Well done.

Nice model BTW! :stuck_out_tongue:

BgDM

Good stuff, thats some real good shading!

Blend On!

The first one looks exactly like polished mammoth ivory, except that there is no grain.

wow, the carpaint, as said here already, is just fantastic.
got me open up the blender and check out those new materials, heh… I haven’t really tried them out yet… (toons and blinns or whatever) … I didn’t know how to use them…

so, you managed to get me tweaking settings… thanks.

this is what I came up with… when trying to get something out of those toon settings…

That looks really nice Basse. Not sure what it is but it is nice.

Modron: Where did you get Mamouth ivory ?

Bob

PS. I got my copy of Cinema4D so not much blendering here.
But I check this forum from time to time to see how Blender
is going. There some really nice pieces of art to see here.

Bob, I used to do alot of work with mammoth ivory. There was a company here called the Alaska Silver and Ivory Company. Alot of people here still work it. If you are considering aquiring some, take note: You have to be REALLY careful if you don’t know what you’re looking for. In fact a couple of locals got busted a few years back, after unknowingly using poached walrus ivory, supplied by a man known as Seal Skin Charlie. And these people were professionals who should have known better. The other problem with purchasing ivory is that most people will charge you a fortune if you don’t already know what it’s worth. Some of it is even artificially aged, and stained with blue dye, intended to simulate the effect of mammoth Ivory that has been sitting in blue clay for a few centuries. Frankly, I wouldn’t even buy an ivory knife handle without knowing where it came from.

Here I threw a chunk on the scanner. This is the real McKoy ==>

This has not been fully polished, so it lacks the glazed look of a finished piece.

Hi Modron,

Makes interesting reading. First I thought you play piano
or billard - you know on old pianos the white keys were
made of ivory as well as old billard balls. What makes me
really laugh was the name Seal Skin Charlie - can it get
more clichè like  Thanks for the pic - cool reference.

Am I right you are a Dune fan (your signature) ?

Bob

Whooo, the car paint and ton shading are great, nice work dude, why not go for bumpmap material now, there are so many people who want to create bumpmap and realistic textures
