Hello all…
I’m new to Blender, Michalis encouraged me to look at the cycles rendering engine. Love it…
I would like your feedback on this shadow pass node setup for compositing over a background photo or video. I was looking for a way to control the darkness, lightness and color of the shadow to better match the background image. It works really well but being new to Blender, I could very well be going the long way about it…
I did some more testing and what is funny is the correction color node in it’s current location in the node chain works to desaturate your shadow but in some of my test I had to switch the order and put the RGB curve first and then hook to the color correction node for the desaturation to work…
That’s a heads up if the color correction node fails to desaturate your shadow color…
I’m just to new a blender to know why it works and does not work sometimes in a blend file.
I found out that just using the alpha in the renderlayer nodes that the alpha mask appears already anti-alias so I dropped using the object ID to get the anti-alias of the alpha mask.
I reverse the order of the correction node and the RGB curves node as this seems to work in all cases so far.
Well, I was mistaken in my second post… Sometimes the viewer node or compositing node fails to update unless you select them. I re- rendered my scene and and discovered my error as there was the faint alpha mask outline again, so back to using the Id Mask and selecting smooth mask to get rid of the mask jaggies.
The second picture is still a vaild way at least for your shadow plane if is completely covering the view area of the camera…
Sorry guys for stumbling around on this, a newbie getting his feet wet… I’m also watching the 3 series tutorial at Blender Cookie on compositing nodes… Thanks to all who made the tutorial…
At least I’m working toward by first 15 post… :eyebrowlift:
