I’m using compositor to combine shadows over an emissions shader for cartoon look. The shadows in the render look smooth but when in the compositor shadow layer the shadows have jagged edges. Does anyone know why they don’t match? I’ve attached the sample file. If you look at the cube you can see the jagged edge on the shadowing.
Easiest would be to change render to cycles with very low samples.
For eevee try contact shadows and increase geometry where is needed, the sphere for example.
I found it’s just the way the shadows render on curved surfaces in Eevee. Normally this isn’t visible because the object shading itself covers it up but since I’m rendering only the shadow in the composite layer it becomes very noticeable. The shadows look better in Cycles but compositor setup doesn’t work in cycles.
