How can I cause the walls in the maze game I am creating to cast shadows on the ground plane? Right now it seems like the two are being lit independantly.
people say you can fake it in the bge when really it doesnt matter what game engine you use, you still have to fake the shadows.(computer games arent real) okay…
you should bake radiosity in the textures. search the game engine forums for it. Social just recently asked about it.
Some may cry heresy… but…
If you want really nice, realtime shadows (where its as simple as coding ‘shadows on’) go have a look at the ogre engine http://www.ogre3d.org
there is a python binding called pyogre (google it) if (like me) you prefer coding in python than c++
Liar it is not that simple. I am also a Ogre user and blender user and a graphics engine dev. you cant just say Shadows On in ogre to make them work. And also if this guy doesnt have any python experiance outside of blender then he might end up having issues with OGRE. Guys I guess that in about 4 months snailrose will have finished integrating ogre with blender, mabey even less. I have seen what snailrose has so far, and things look good.
keep up the good work! (orgre intergration)

I knew I shouldn’t get too excited about that august release date.
do you think that some little monney can help to speed up this development work ? ogre integration can save me lots of hours of work so I am ready to participate that way … specialy if it can happen this 3rd trimester … !
LOL money will not help you
Its not like this is snailroses job. He does have a life and a different job outiside of blender Dev. He does this stuff in his spare time.
Who said anything about august???
Hey dont take my word for it. All I know is that things are going fast.
The August date is on this page down where it talks about replacing the Ketsgi renderer. Mind you, I’m not complaining at all as long as he keeps working on it. This could make Blender the premier open source development system with the Ogre engine. It’s already great as far as I’m concerned, but with Ogre. Wow.
Oops I didnt read all of the page
Well snailrose’s email is out or sumtin cus I havnt been able to contact him for almost two weeks
So I havn’t talked to him about it lately
Thanks for the link fireside the plugin looks great.

Uhh, I thought all you have to do in pyogre at least is to set the shadowTechnique attribute of the scene manager to ogre.SHADOWTYPE_STENCIL_ADDITIVE (or some other shadowing technique)…it automatically sets castShadows attribute of all the entities to True…(of course you can change it for individual entites)…is it different in C++ ogre?
Can’t wait for ogre, oh yeah…
But to get to you’re question, ebogs, I believe you can get what you want with the BRaybaker script. I haven’t used it on a specific project, but I think it can do what you’re after. Give the forum a search. (I’m assuming all you need are STATIC shadows…)
Hey all,
Yeah the Ogre Plugin is still being worked on.
The August release date may have been jumping the gun, but a release will be done as fast a possible.
I’m only human and new at this as well, so naturally it will take some time… Please be patient
Here is a Shadow pic, so I don’t stray too far off topic:

thanks,

oooo ahhhhh. It’s so beautiful.(wipes away a tear) This may be the push I need to buy that nvidia 6600.
How is the framerate looking?
Sadly, shadows cut the framerate in half…
The same scene with shadows disabled is running about 200 fps
Its worth pointing out that all this is from a debug build, so it’s slower
and not optimized…
I know what you mean. I also need a better vid card (the old Nvidia GeForce 4 is close to ancient)
Personally I’m trying to make it without buying a thing until the DX10 cards are out and swinging. Buying a DX9 card now would not be a good investment IMO.
Actually, come to think of it; I think I’ll just get a brand new setup.(Hmm… Will I be able to get the cash together in time?)
Does anyone know when the DX10 cards are supposed to be out anyway?

Thank you for your dedication.
DX10 Isn’t even fleshed out, there are/still bugs. Why do you think Vista is running on DX9!?
Oh and Snailrose, if you wip a binary for linux or windows Ill be more then happy to consider my game with blender as crazy as it is right now :P.
nice shadows Snailrose!.. looking forward to it.
Hello Snailrose,
amazing job
i found the ogre demo it have some very cool glsl shader it will possible

Well, I guess I’m not into games as much as I used to be. It’s 80 dollars for a 6600, and it does opengl 2. It’s actually cheaper for the PCI version, but I have an AGP. I hate Microsoft with passion so DX10 has no influence with me at all. The games I play are the ones I download from here and that’s it. It’s probably not even worth the 80 dollars, but the shaders are kind of interesting. The part I hate though, is putting money into something as old as my pc. An AMD 2400 or something like that.
