I’ve been wondering for a long time why I couldn’t export my FBX with my shape keys to use on a game engine, and after a while I realized It wasn’t working because I had the Edge Split modifier on my model. Ok, it makes sense, because the shape keys can change angles and the Edge Split wouldn’t work properly.
But how can I have smoothing groups on my model and shape keys at the same time? Because if I apply the Edge Split modifier, it simply separate the faces, not saves it as a smoothing group, and I don’t want it to happen. Or am I doing smoothing groups with the wrong tool?
I’ve been researching about some stuff and I think Edge Split modifier is the wrong way to do that indeed.
For whom had the same issue than me, you should go to the Data tab on your object proprieties, mark Auto Smooth, add a desired angle, or ust put 180 if you wanna do it all by hand, then in edit mode mark the edges as sharp. No modifier, no problem. This might be the right way of using smoothing groups on Blender.
