Shapekey relevance

So I am designing several characters, and I know that rigging each one can put a lot of stress on the engine. Is it better to use shape keys for any static characters? (they just stand around to talk to them) I just learned how to use shape keys, so that is fun

Thanks everyone,

It could be more efficient than skinning. Larger size on disk vs doing it realtime.

But you may need to approach animation in a more stop-motion kind of way, as many deforms are likely to not blend well into one another and constant interpolation is needed to sell any motion.

perfect, these character will only have like one or two motions, so that’s why I want to use them for the majority of characters so they seem alive but the computer doesn’t have to do so much
