here my project i’m currently working on… about 2 hours of work so far. not including the “theory of rigging” cause that’s some work ;). the ship is completly fictional though it is based on a schooner-rigged type. It’s already fairly detailed. Has 50 ropes and stuff like that g… My actual goal is to make it look too good to decide whether it’s a photo or render-image ;).
Now the Reason why i’m posting this here is, that i don’t have a name yet, And wanted to ask you guys ;). And as a result of this: I’m etsablishing a name-contest for my going-to-be-beautyful ship (a shooner is very elegant ).
i’ll update this thread as my work is on progress… Hope you give me some nice ideas and names. And if enough poeple participate I may give you the finished thing. A complete highly detailed Sailing Ship of the “Baltimore Schooner”-rigged class, capable of moving its sails using armatures etc…
no just kidding… i’m working on it… is boris your name ;)?
–> and another question: does someone have a proposal How I can make ropes (look as) beeing unrolled and getting longer? (I don’t like simple scaling , because for this I need straight ropes But i wont the Rope to follow a path, when it is unrolled)

Having something follow a path is not difficult, but I don’t know how to scale something along a path, or perhaps really roll-up like in real life.
Haha, I just thought of something. You can make a pulley and actually wrap the path it’s supposed to follow around it, like 100 times… THis way, it actually rolls off. But I don’t know if this is practical. If the spin feature works for curves,I think you can do it by spinning around the center of the pulley.
As for the name, what about “Victory” or “Majestic”?
well… added some more details to the ship… anyway this time rendering took about 5min. using AO that’s a pretty good result i guess. Waves still look ugly though… But the Ship is now reaching photo-quality.
If I had vacation on a boat. this is what my ship would look like… including the weather
the second one took a little longer, cause blender had to include the “deck-features” in AO. well 20mins is not so good anymore
well… here’s the link for the second pic. C&C welcome… And don’t forget to post new ideas for names g
The waves look to uniform, the should vary in height ect. You should also add a bump map to the water, the sails, and all the other materials (except the sky).
