Hi, User Preferences > Input > Change “Blender” to “Blender 27X”

Cheers, mib

does it cover all the keys in 2.8 or some are new
is there a list for these differences ?

still looking for a good image summary for the 2.8 keys
anything available now ?

there are some gesture things - I guess these would still be available even if using old shortcut keys from 2.79

thanks

Hello! I’m new to blender i’m a beginner and i need to know what these 3 things for shortcuts mean

  1. Blender

  2. Blender 27x

  3. Industry Compatible

1 corresponds to default keymap since 2.8 series. It will contain new shortcuts for new tools. But it is also a lighter keymap that allows user to add some custom shortcuts on F-keys.
It is a mix between old keymap and shortcuts that are more standards in other software.

2 corresponds to old keymap of 2.7x series. That is a keymap that was using all shortcuts of keyboard.
Most of its basic shortcuts are inherited from a time when shortcuts were not customizable.
So, it allows to follow old tutorials. It eased transition to new UI for old users.

3 corresponds to a keymap that uses shortcuts used in other 3D software comparable to Blender.

Hi, I am not sure if Ricky is still active but in short:

  1. Acctual shortcut setup for Blender 2.8 - 3.1 (There was a major update/change from 2.7 to 2.8)
  2. Old setup (If you start now it is irrelevant for you)
  3. Change the shortcuts to compatible with other 3D software like Maya, 3DMax and so forth.

3 is useful for user comming from other software but does not make sense in the long term.

Cheers, mib
