Here’s the thing. I’m not much of a gamer, and the only games I play would be happy on a much older generation GPU than I have, so Blender is my only consideration.
Right now, I have dual GTX1070 (EVGA if it matters) 8Gb, which is not a bad render setup. However, I’m seeing GTX1060 and RTX3060 comparisons which, if they scale the same, could mean that a single RTX3070 could out perform my dual 1070 setup. The GTX1070 still fetch a decent price on Ebay, so I could probably fund one RTX3070 from the proceeds of the two GTX1070s, but is it worth the effort?
The 3070 is typically 8Gb, so I’m not going to gain any memory (at least for rendering), which means this comes down entirely to render speed.
Has anyone switched from similar to mine to proposed?
Something you might put in your calculations is the light bill. The single RTX3070 should cost less in electricity.
Something else to think about is the age. The GTX1070 is older than the RTX3070. The RTX3070 should be something that would last, with the GTX1070 wearing out. The fans is probably something that would stop working. And also the thermal paste. There have been problems with thermal paste on the newer GPU’s.
Ha, nothing lasts, tecnology is always way ahead of production, first they have an idea, then they implement it, then they frabicate it, then they sell it. The procces takes time and when the product reaches the consumer they already have new ideas, implentations etc!
