Show me where you live.

In this thread I invite you to post images of the region you live in, ideally taken by you, and at this time of the year.

Where I live it’s usually very arid, and in the summers it’s testicle-baking-hot.
This time of the year is for the monsoons though, and pretty much all of the annual precipitation will happen in the next two months.

The first rain of the monsoons has brought down all the dust (I think), and left behind super blue skies, and this is the most polluted city in the country, shot today.

Not where I live, but close enough are the Himalayas. The youngest and the highest mountains in the world. They also gain elevation relatively quickly, which is why even though I live so close (in a relative sense) it doesn’t look like this. (shot last week)

Why is it so hot then? Because I’m little bit closer to a desert than to the Himalayas.
The only thing preventing this place from turning into a desert are (one of) the oldest mountain ranges in the world, the Aravallis.

Some 1.5 bn years old (thank you, Wikipedia), they apparently stop hot winds and sand from the desert. They are clearly too old for the job, In fact, they were around when India was Africa.

Actually, they get a lot higher than this, but I live at the tip of this mountain range. Whatever is left is being mined by idiots, and we’ll be walking around in sand in no time.

The Kern river valley. The Kern river falls from 14000 feet above sea level to 200 feet above sea level in about 200 miles. The small road to the right climbs 4000 more feet above sea level in about 6 miles. you can smell the burning breaks of the campers coming down the hill. Some time the big campers/ RV’s get away from the drivers and crash. I like it here. It is desert mountains. We have cooler air and big trees near, as the elevation changes so fast. Winter is better as the most tourist have gone home…mostly

My house…

what about those who liv in ‘pancake land’ with none of the beautiful scenery to bragg about?

Blendering must be a constant struggle.

My fav. café a few minutes from where I live here in Gothenburg, Sweden…

The ghost birds where created by the Iphone HDR crap thingie, hehe… ;D

Downtown Gothenburg… The channel is actually the old city moat - and it was also dug to drain the swamp the city is built on.

…and this is the result of living under socialist oppression for all these years. Just horrible, right…? ;D

(over all living standards are actually about the highest in the world ;D)

Though I’m thankful of not living further north thus having to defend myself from the polar bears roaming the streets in wintertime… ;D

(which is also not true though we got a lot of European Brown Bear - basically Grizzly’s - and once, like every other year, they chew a bit on some random hunter - well, that’s just justice, hehe ;D)

The show me state.

Bakere n m woods somewheres.

They race mini hydroplanes here in the summer.

Cool Renders

Is that a traditional Arkansas bbq you got going there? ;D

Mine are fake, I use camera projection as I suck at texturing. ;D

My childhood town can be seen in the background.

Home-Style BBQ.

Well, the lack of scenery can also make for great photos. I live in a pretty boring place too, I’ll see if I can click a few good ones.

Meanwhile, here’s a panorama from the same trip. (5000px wide, open in a new tab)

I was born here:
